ABOUT

THE CAMPAIGN

Celebrating an essential industry

Now in its eighth year, National Lorry Week celebrates the lorries, people and businesses who keep our shelves stocked and goods moving.

Trucks are essential to our way of life; they deliver everything that we use and consume – from toilet roll to TVs – but are often taken for granted. We’re on a mission to change that.

National Lorry Week takes place from 24 to 30 October, but we’ll be celebrating throughout the month.

What to expect

This year’s National Lorry Week will see our roadshow travel across the UK for four weeks showcasing the industry and everything it has to offer.

We’ll be meeting with members, industry partners, schools, colleges and Government along the way to champion road transport.

We’ll also be highlighting stories from real people working in our industry and promoting the opportunities available to the next generation and those looking for a career change.

National Lorry Week is the perfect chance to champion logistics as a modern, innovative, and exciting industry. We hope you will join us.

THE INDUSTRY

Dynamic, innovative and exciting

From food and drink to clothing and medicines, the things we buy, eat, wear and use are brought to us by road. Trucks are fundamental to our way of life.

Eighty-nine percent of the things we buy or use have been transported by road and handled by a series of hardworking people along the way. That’s a huge amount. From the producer to the driver, the warehouse operative to the transport manager, and many others in between.

The road transport industry works incredibly hard every single day, to ensure our shops, factories, hospitals, schools and homes have everything they need.

It doesn’t end there – there is a vast chain of professionals involved when we’re finished with things too, including recycling and waste management, many of whom are developing smarter and more sustainable ways of bringing materials back into production as goods or energy.

What is logistics?

Logistics is the industry which manages how things are acquired, stored, and transported to their final destination, be that road, air, rail or sea.

Logistics is a dynamic and exciting industry which offers a range of opportunities to people from all backgrounds. There are thousands of careers that support the process of moving goods.

THE RHA

Who are the RHA?

We’re a trade body that represents the logistics industry and commercial vehicle operators.

We champion the sector’s interests at the heart of Government, to lead change that benefits society, and promote compliance and the safest standards across our industry.

Our members are mostly hauliers, coach operators, van operators, and logistics sector professionals – all of whom benefit from industry-leading best practice.

We have nearly 80 years’ experience of representing our sector and offer a wide range of services, including:

Delivering Change

We are campaigning around three key areas:

The RHA Skills Campaign

aims to attract new talent into the industry and improve access to funding for training.

The RHA Environment Campaign

champions the move towards net zero vehicles and technology and supports members on this journey.

The RHA Facilities Campaign

is about securing more lorry and coach parking and improving the standard of facilities.
