What we’re celebrating throughout National Lorry Week
National Lorry Week celebrates the vital and often-overlooked role the road transport industry has in our everyday lives. It runs from 16 to 22 November but we’ve launched our activities much earlier this year – our sixth – as National Lorry Week becomes bigger and better than ever before.
We’re showcasing the huge variety of careers our industry has to offer and encouraging young people and those who may be considering a new challenge to think about joining the next generation of drivers, managers and technicians.
We’re also asking people to show their appreciation for the sector, the companies and workforces, who transport and deliver 98% of our essential consumer goods such as food, medicine and more.
National Lorry Week is the perfect opportunity to champion logistics as a vastly innovative, inclusive and sustainable industry, full of amazing opportunities.

What is logistics?
Logistics is the industry which manages how resources are acquired, stored, and transported to their final destination.
It’s the lifeblood of business in the UK. Virtually everything we buy has at some point been handled by a number of logistics people – from producer, to warehouse operative, to distributor, to delivery driver and many others in between.
Many people see logistics as ‘just’ moving goods from a factory or warehouse to the shops or your front door, but that’s only a part of it. There are countless roles which support the logistics process and we’ll be finding out much more about them in the lead up to National Lorry Week.
