What makes the logistics industry such a great place to work?
The sheer diversity and broad spectrum of everything we do makes the industry great for me. We have a transport office, accounts, HR, workshop technicians, lorry drivers – all are very different within the same field.
The variation of what the industry carries is completely different too, for example we are involved in haulage for the agricultural industry, but other hauliers carry completely different goods that require a totally different approach, equipment and training
What can we do to encourage young people to work in logistics?
My children who are young, would work in our industry tomorrow because they love everything about trucks and transport. This industry needs to promote itself – there are enough things that this industry offers but people don’t know and the general public have no idea of what we offer. We need to get the message out to them.
What breadth of roles does your company offer?
Transport planners, transport manager, general administration, accounts, vehicle technicians (including apprenticeships) and lorry drivers.
What does National Lorry Week mean to you?
It gives us the opportunity to promote our industry, not just to potential future employees but to the general public as well.
Why should people get involved?
It provides an opportunity for the industry to sell itself by improving public relations and to use as a recruitment tool.
What does the future hold for our industry with innovation and new technology?
The opportunities from innovation and new technology for the future of this industry are endless with driverless vehicles, electric vehicles and vehicles that can now communicate directly to the manufacturers’ when there’s a fault.
