How did you get into the industry and what brought you here?
I was brought up in the industry by my parents and grandparents.
How long have you worked in the sector?
I have worked in transport since I left school as 16 and I am now 34.
What does the word ‘logistics’ mean to you?
It’s the lifeline of everything in our daily lives. Whether it’s living in your home (construction) to cooking your tea in the evening it has logistics behind it.
What makes the logistics industry such a great place to work?
It’s a great place to work because you have a sense of achievement to see something you have planned to deliver arrive. You look back and think I got that there.
What can we do to encourage young people to work in logistics?
Create dedicated colleges / universities in areas of the UK to provide correct training / apprenticeship programmes within the industry. And this is for all logistics roles.
What breadth of roles does your company offer?
Due to being a small family business our roles are relatively small. Most importantly being HGV drivers.
What does National Lorry Week mean to you?
National lorry week to me is an opportunity to show to the general public exactly what we are all about. With all what’s going on at the moment it’s so important to show everyone just how important we all are in logistics to everything you have in your daily life.
Why should people get involved?
We need to make our industry a positive place, and also work together to make it a better environment for our drivers to work in.
What does the future hold for our industry with innovation and new technology?
I feel there is a lot of change and so much to come from the future with truck development and carbon neutral.
