What is your role in the industry? What does your organisation do?

I lead Corpay’s UK and ANZ Fleet businesses, which include Allstar, Keyfuels and The Fuelcard Company. Together, we help tens of thousands of fleets manage the hardest part of running vehicles: the cost and complexity of fuelling and charging.

Our role is clear. We give operators the tools, data and flexibility to run mixed fleets confidently, whether that’s petrol, diesel, EV, HVO and other alternative fuels. We sit at the intersection of drivers and fleet managers, making everyday decisions sharper and long-term planning stronger.

Why are you and / or your organisation getting involved in National Lorry Week 2025?

Without lorries, the UK grinds to a halt. National Lorry Week is our chance to celebrate an industry that rarely gets the credit it deserves, yet touches every single part of the economy.

For us, supporting this week is about shining a light on the people behind the wheel and behind the scenes: the drivers, managers and businesses who keep the country moving.

Why is it important to celebrate the road transport industry?

Because it is the backbone of Britain. Everything we eat, wear, build and use has been on the back of a lorry. Yet too often, the sector is either invisible or viewed through a narrow lens of congestion and emissions.

Celebrating road transport is about restoring perspective. It means recognising the skill and resilience in this industry, and showing the next generation that these are careers that matter. Careers that keep the country running.

Are there any misconceptions about road transport that you would like to put right?

I believe the biggest myth is that the industry is slow to change. In truth, haulage and logistics businesses are some of the most adaptable operators in the UK. They’ve had to be. From navigating fuel volatility, Brexit, regulation, and now the messy middle of decarbonisation.

Another misconception is about the role of the driver. Driving an HGV is not just “steering a wheel.” It’s a demanding, highly skilled profession that requires training, focus and professionalism. It deserves more respect.

What issues must we raise awareness about in road transport and why are they important?

I think there are two issues that stand out.

Firstly, the messy middle of decarbonisation. Fleets will be running diesel, EV, hydrogen and more alternative fuels side by side for many years. The real story isn’t only policy or infrastructure, but it’s the day-to-day reality of operators trying to run mixed fleets profitably. That deserves more attention.

Secondly, people. Recruitment and retention remain critical. Without drivers, planners and engineers, nothing moves. We need to raise awareness of the opportunities in road transport and make sure those jobs carry the respect they deserve.

How does supporting National Lorry Week reflect your commitment to the people who keep our industry moving?

By backing National Lorry Week, we are supporting the backbone of Britain. It is our way of saying: we see you, we value you, and we are committed to supporting you.

At Corpay, we focus on simplification for fleets – helping them control costs, manage new fuels and use data intelligently. But technology is only part of the story. Recognition matters just as much. National Lorry Week gives us a chance to celebrate the people as well as the vehicles and the payment technology that supports fleets.
