What is your role in the industry? What does your organisation do?

Backhouse Jones (BHJ) is an award-winning law firm with an unparalleled reputation for representing commercial road haulage and passenger transport sectors. Renowned for its deep-rooted expertise, BHJ is consistently at the forefront of transport legislation, handling the majority of Public Inquiries before the UK’s Traffic Commissioners. The firm also delivers hundreds of specialist training sessions and conducts extensive regulatory compliance reviews across the industry.

Why are you and / or your organisation getting involved in National Lorry Week 2025?

What’s not to love about National Lorry Week! It’s a fantastic opportunity to shine a light on a sector that keeps the country moving. Haulage and logistics play a vital role in our everyday lives — from next-day deliveries to keeping our supermarket shelves stocked. By supporting National Lorry Week, we’re recognising and celebrating the people and businesses that make this happen. It’s a chance to show our appreciation for an industry that quietly underpins everything we rely on, often without the recognition it deserves.

Why is it important to celebrate the road transport industry?

Haulage is the lifeblood of our economy — a true enabler of growth, trade, and productivity. Despite its critical role, the sector is often taken for granted. Celebrating the road transport industry helps raise awareness of its enormous contribution to the UK’s GDP and daily life. It also reminds us to value the hard work, dedication, and professionalism of those who ensure goods are delivered safely, efficiently, and on time.

Are there any misconceptions about road transport that you would like to put right?

One of the biggest misconceptions is that commercial road transport is only about truck driving. In reality, the industry offers an incredibly diverse range of careers — from transport management, planning, and compliance, to engineering, logistics technology, and sustainability roles. It’s been inspiring to see increasing numbers of women entering and excelling across the sector, helping to redefine perceptions and make logistics a more inclusive and attractive career path. The opportunities are truly endless.

What issues must we raise awareness about in road transport and why are they important?

Safe and secure parking facilities with proper rest amenities remain a major issue for drivers across the UK. With vehicle crime on the rise, addressing this challenge is more important than ever — not only for the safety and wellbeing of drivers but also for protecting valuable goods and maintaining operational efficiency. Ensuring drivers have safe, comfortable places to rest is a fundamental part of supporting the people who keep the supply chain moving.

How does supporting National Lorry Week reflect your commitment to the people who keep our industry moving?

Supporting National Lorry Week is our way of saying thank you to the people and organisations who make the industry what it is. It’s about recognising the professionalism, compliance, and dedication of those who deliver excellence every single day in a highly regulated and demanding sector. By shining a light on their achievements, we’re reinforcing our commitment to supporting our clients, partners, and everyone who plays a role in keeping the UK’s logistics network running smoothly.
